uniBank launches maiden e-week celebration

uniBank (Ghana) Limited has launched its maiden e-week celebration to enhance the sales of the banks electronic banking products. The e-week which begins today Monday 21st June - Friday 26th June 2010 is expected to create awareness among the Ghanaian public on the need to embrace electronic banking.

Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Managing Director of the bank, who launched the e-week celebration last Friday, was of the view that, investment in technology was vital in meeting the changing consumer requirements and the need for the bank to continue to invest in information technology in the competitive environment.

He noted that the interdependencies and synergies arising from a collative approach would generate mutual benefits and cost savings. According to him, the benefits range from consistent and standardized application of rules and processes to seamlessly harness the institutions' respective infrastructure and promotional activities to realize cost savings arising from the sharing of scarce capital. In meeting this trend, he emphasized that the sale of uniBank electronic banking products such as uni-Alert, uni-Mobile and uni-Web were indeed a welcome development as an electronic banking platform that leverages on modern technologies.

This would also enable transactions to be done offline by the use of smart card or mobile phone that holds all money. The products would also provide on-line assurance of payments, enable payments references to accompany payments to facilitate reconciliation of transactions and provides an efficient and cost effective settlement mechanism.

More than 90 percent of the non-cash retail payments in Ghana are made by way of issuing cheques. The MD called for a change to encourage consumers and businesses to use electronic means of payments. He urged the Central Bank, the Miinistry of Finance and the Ghana Association of Bankers to develop a concerted and co-ordinated effort to get Ghanaians to move towards electronic payments.

He congratulated the e-week planning team for adopting such a concept, calling on all staff to use the e-week celebration to reach out and cross sell e-banking products to Corporate, SME and Individual customers in Ghana.
